Britannia’s James Richardson

James Richardson, co-creator and executive producer of the historical drama Britannia, tells TV Drama‘s Mansha Daswani about the story arc for season two and what viewers can expect from its new and returning characters.

Following the huge on-demand numbers that season one of Britannia posted, the ten-episode second season is poised to return with equal “bingeability,” first in the U.K. on Sky Atlantic on Thursday, November 7, followed a week later on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S.

The historical drama Britannia is back for a sophomore run, which is the result of co-creator and executive producer James Richardson’s first foray into TV. Set in 43 AD, the big-budget historical fantasy reimagines the Roman conquest of Britain, which at the time was occupied by various warring tribes. The invasion of a foreign army catapulted the factions into chaos, testing their allegiances and challenging their ideas about whom to call friend or foe. Former Celtic rivals Kerra (Kelly Reilly) and Regni Queen Antedia (Zoë Wanamaker) find themselves joining forces to fight a common enemy, a legion of Roman interlopers led by Aulus Plautius, played by David Morrissey. Britannia brings to life what happened when these forces from opposite sides of the world met, coloring the fictionalized realm with Druids, demons and prophecies.
