AGC Television has aligned with author Jayne Allen to adapt her series of Black Girls books for television.

The deal includes Black Girls Must Die Exhausted and Black Girls Must Be Magic, along with the as-yet-unnamed third book in the trilogy. The Black Girls series introduces Tabitha Walker, a woman whose checklist is almost complete: a good job, a down payment for a house and a promising relationship. She’s given an unexpected health diagnosis that gives her only six months to fulfill one of the most prized dreams on her list: having children.

Allen will be an executive producer on the series, along with AGC’s Stuart Ford and Lourdes Diaz Diaz and Lorelle Lynch.

Allen said, “I couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with the visionary AGC team to bring the everyday magic of Tabitha Walker and her friends to life on the screen. AGC will be the perfect custodians of these stories for the vibrant, passionate community that has been created by the Black Girls novels and now for an even broader audience.”

Diaz added, “Jayne has been a wonderful collaborator, and we’re thrilled to help bring this trilogy to life. The homegrown success of the series is a testament to the importance of seeing relatable and authentic experiences of black women on TV.”

Lynch said, “When I first read Black Girls Must Die Exhausted, I immediately resonated with the story of Tabitha, a woman who was challenged to create a full life for herself despite the obstacles in her way. These books showcase the beauty, comedy, and community between black women as they build their lives, and I look forward to watching these stories unfold on-screen.”
