The award-winning Belgian series Tytgat Chocolat (Team Chocolate) is set for a U.K. remake.

Reel One Entertainment will partner with U.K. theater company Chickenshed to adapt the drama for British television, having secured the format rights from Wild Bunch TV. The series, which debuted on Belgian public broadcaster VRT (Eén) last September, tells the story of a young man with Down syndrome who travels across Europe to be reunited with the love of his life.

Team Chocolate was a collaboration between Belgian production company De Mensen and Theater Stap, a Flanders-based theater company that works with disabled actors. Actors from the company play many of the lead roles in the show.

Reel One plans to begin pitching U.K. broadcasters over the coming weeks and is currently in discussions to attach a British writer.

Adam Fratto, head of series at Reel One, commented: “Right from the first episode, we were captivated by the warmth, humor and honesty of this charming story of a group of young people wanting to lead their lives on their own terms. We’re thrilled to be working with De Mensen, Wild Bunch and Chickenshed on what promises to be a unique and timely series.”
