BBC Studios has been recommissioned to produce new seasons of the hit daytime crime dramas Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators and Father Brown.

The 10×45-minute eighth season of Father Brown will be broadcast in 2020 on BBC One Daytime. A ninth season, also with 10 45-minute episodes, has been ordered as well, to air in 2021.

Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators gets a 10×45-minute third season next year and a fourth of the same length in 2021.

Will Trotter, head of BBC Studios daytime drama unit in Birmingham, said: “We’re thrilled that BBC One Daytime has shown its long term commitment to these two fantastic series. With series eight and nine there will be 100 episodes of Father Brown for viewers to enjoy and with additional series of Shakespeare and Hathaway: Private Investigators we can build on the much-loved daytime crime drama genre even further.”
