LOS ANGELES: Andrew Haigh (45 Years, Weekend) has signed on to adapt and direct the limited series The North Water, inspired by the novel penned by Ian McGuire.
The North Water centers on a disgraced ex-army surgeon who, after agreeing to serve as a ship’s doctor for a whaling expedition to the Arctic, finds himself dealing with a homicidal psychopath. The BBC is currently developing The North Water with producer See-Saw Films as a 6×1-hour limited series.
Hakan Kousetta, See-Saw Films’ COO of television, and Jamie Laurenson, head of television, commented: “Ian McGuire’s novel is brilliantly both a page-turning thriller and an incredible exploration of the human condition. From our very first conversations with Andrew it was clear that he is passionate about both aspects of the story and we’re thrilled that he’s come on board to bring his vision of the novel to a television audience.”
