All3Media International has inked a deal with Falcon Pictures that will see the Indonesian production house produce local adaptations of three scripted formats.

This includes an adaptation of Cheat, originally produced by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV in the U.K. The thriller centers on a case of academic deception that quickly spirals out of control and results in devastating events that threaten to engulf both university professor Leah and her student Rose.

Falcon Pictures is also adapting Two Brothers Pictures’ Liar, which has already been produced in 12 territories. Also originally made for ITV, it tells the story of a night that changes two people’s lives forever. When Laura, a smart and dedicated teacher not long out of a relationship, and Andrew, a renowned surgeon whose son is a student at Laura’s school, go on a date, their meeting has far-reaching consequences for themselves and their families.

The Indonesian producer is also developing a local iteration of The Cry, a psychological thriller based on Helen Fitzgerald’s best-selling book of the same name. The original version, produced by Synchronicity for BBC One, starred Jenna Coleman and Ewen Leslie and was nominated for an International Emmy. It chronicles the collapse of a marriage in the aftermath of tragedy and explores the myths and truths of motherhood. New parents Joanna and Alistair travel from Scotland to Alistair’s home country of Australia to introduce the new baby to family, and so Alistair can pursue custody of his first child. Not long after arriving, however, their baby is abducted.

This deal marks All3Media International’s first scripted format deal in Indonesia.

“We’re delighted that the renowned team at Falcon Pictures will be leading our first foray into scripted formats in Indonesia, and congratulate them and Amanda Pe, sales executive for the Asia Pacific at All3Media International, on this first collaboration between our two companies, which we hope will be the first of many collaborations on developing dramas for this vibrant market,” said Sabrina Duguet, executive VP for the Asia Pacific at All3Media International. “Falcon Pictures has an impressive track record in bringing some of the country’s biggest titles to screens. The ongoing demand for scripted formats such as Liar, which is now in 13 territories, shows that scripted formats continue to offer the cost-effective production and proven success that producers and broadcasters around the world are looking for.”

HB Naveen, CEO of Falcon Pictures, added, “There is huge demand in Indonesia for local content, and these incredible titles, all gripping thrillers with strong female leads, really stood out to us as being ideal for adaptation. Acquiring proven scripted formats such as Liar, Cheat and The Cry gives us an exciting opportunity to combine the best stories from leading global creatives with our best homegrown talent, and we can’t wait to deliver high-quality must-see versions of these thrillers to broadcasters—and viewers—in Indonesia.”
