A+E Networks International is embarking on the co-production of Miss Scarlet and The Duke, a crime drama set in the 19th century.

The project marks the first international scripted co-production for the company. The series stars Kate Phillips (Peaky Blinders, The Crown, upcoming Downton Abbey feature film) as Eliza Scarlet, who inherits a private detective agency and enlists a partner in Detective Inspector William Wellington (also known as The Duke) to help her operate in the male-dominated line of work.

Miss Scarlet and The Duke is created and written by Rachael New (Grantchester, The Mallorca Files, EastEnders). The project originated with Element 8 Entertainment’s producing team. ShinAwiL will oversee production in Dublin in June 2019.

“We are thrilled to greenlight our first international co-production featuring the amazingly talented Kate Phillips in an incredibly strong lead female role,” said Richard Tulk-Hart, managing director of international content sales and co-productions at A+E Networks. “Solid performances together with a remarkable team of exec producers and ShinAwiL’s production prowess are certain to result in an engaging series that will skillfully deliver on Rachael New’s captivating storyline.”
