Acorn TV Adapting Mrs Sidhu Investigates Radio Show

A four-part screen adaptation of the BBC Radio 4 show Mrs Sidhu Investigates is set to bow on Acorn TV in 2023.

Creator Suk Pannu (The Kumars at No. 42, Goodness Gracious Me) has adapted the radio show for the screen with actress and writer Meera Syal (The Kumars at No. 42, Yesterday, Anita and Me), who voiced the titular character on BBC Radio 4.

Mrs Sidhu Investigates follows a high-end caterer who solves murders and other crimes among the affluent residents of Berkshire. A lifetime of being an “Indian Aunty,” invisible to the elite, sharpened her skills as an investigator.

The series stars Syal, Gurjeet Singh (Ackley Bridge), Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Grace) and Naana Agyei-Ampadu (Death in Paradise). Monumental Television and Absolutely Productions are producing. Steve Barron is directing the first two episodes, with Ben Kellett directing the following two. In addition to Pannu, Vivienne Harvey is writing two episodes, and Syal is providing additional material.

Executive producers are Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer for Acorn Media Enterprises; Jane Wallbank, Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter for Monumental Television; and Gordon Kennedy for Absolutely Productions, alongside Barron, Syal and Pannu.

“Adapting Suk Pannu’s adored radio mystery into Acorn TV’s next cozy crime drama has been an absolute pleasure,” said Catherine Mackin, managing director of Acorn Media Enterprises. “With Meera Syal’s renowned humor and talent leading the series and a captivating set of mysteries to solve, we know our audiences will devour every moment of this witty and delectable series.”

Alison Owen, founder and co-chairperson of Monumental Television, added, “Monumental Television are extremely proud to be making Mrs Sidhu Investigates and are excited to be filming with Meera Syal and Craig Parkinson. From Suk Pannu’s and Absolutely Productions’ wonderful radio show, the television series will transcend to our screens as a captivating and warm comedy/drama.”
