Netflix Drama Frontier Renewed Ahead of Debut

TORONTO: Discovery Canada and Netflix have renewed the scripted drama Frontier, which stars Game of Thrones‘ Jason Momoa, for a second season ahead of the series’ premiere.

Produced in association with Discovery by Take The Shot Productions, together with partners at ASAP Entertainment, Frontier is set against the backdrop of 1700s Canada. The action-filled series centers on warring factions vying for control of the fur trade in a ruthless game of wealth and power.

Filming on the six-episode second season is currently under way, being shot in 4K UHD. Season two will bow in 2017 in Canada on Discovery. Season one premieres on November 6 at 9 p.m. Both seasons will be streamed globally via Netflix.

“As we started to see this cinematic, well-cast and meticulously produced series come to life as we’d dared imagine for season one, we knew we’d created a uniquely immersive world and story that begged for expansion to a second season,” said Ken MacDonald, the VP and general manager of Discovery. “Our decision to begin filming another six episodes before the series’ world premiere is a testament to our confidence in Frontier‘s world-class storytelling.”

“We are thrilled to have the love and support of our partners, Bell Media and Netflix, in bringing season two of Frontier to life,” added Jeff Fierson and Brad Peyton, executive producers at ASAP Entertainment. “We are so proud of the work the incredible cast and crew put into making season one so special, and aim to make the second season just as strong.”

“It’s an amazing gift to be able to tell the stories of incredibly engaging characters in Frontier, all set against such a rich backdrop of Canadian history,” said John Vatcher, executive producer and series director at Take The Shot Productions.
