VENICE: FremantleMedia International has clinched a slew of new global sales for The Young Pope, which is now headed to such markets as the Netherlands, New Zealand and across Central and Eastern Europe.

From director Paolo Sorrentino, the 10×1-hour series has been picked up by M-Net (pan-Africa), HBO (pan-CEE), BETV (Belgium), OTE TV (Greece) and 365 (Iceland). Sky (New Zealand), Hot (Israel), TV4 (Sweden), Videoland (Netherlands) and FOX (Netherlands) also went for the drama, which stars Jude Law and Diane Keaton. The new raft of sales follows a previous pan-Scandinavian deal with C More.

The Young Pope is a joint production of Sky, HBO and Canal+. It is being produced by Wildside, in which FremantleMedia has a majority stake, and co-produced by Haut et Court TV.

Jens Richter, CEO of FremantleMedia International, commented, “The Young Pope has been the topic of much excitement with TV executives and global audiences alike all wanting to get a glimpse at this extraordinary series. We’re incredibly proud to be working with the team at Wildside to take Paolo Sorrentino’s captivating TV debut to audiences worldwide.”
