Kino Lorber Nabs North American Rights to Milagros Mumenthaler Feature

The North American rights to Milagros Mumenthaler’s feature The Currents have been acquired by Kino Lorber.

“We’re thrilled to bring Milagros Mumenthaler’s assured third feature The Currents to North American audiences,” said Karoliina Dwyer, VP of acquisitions at Kino Lorber. “A fascinating, tense character study with stylistic nods to Hitchcock, the film is deliberately paced and nuanced, subtly exploring themes of fear, shame and trauma. The combined power of Mumenthaler’s exceptional filmmaking and Isabel Aimé González Sola’s impeccable performance is cinema we are proud to champion.”

The Currents is an Alina Film, Ruda Cine production, written and directed by Milagros Mumenthaler and produced by Eugenia Mumenthaler, David Epiney, Violeta Bava and Rosa Martínez Rivero.

While accepting an award for her fashion career in Switzerland, accomplished Argentinean artist and designer Lina (Isabel Aimé González Sola) is seized by the urge to plunge herself into an icy winter lake. Returning to Buenos Aires after surviving the fall, something in Lina has shifted, and it subtly unravels a past she thought she had left behind.

“I am delighted that the film can be seen in the United States, the country of Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola, David Lynch, Gus Van Sant, Clint Eastwood, Kelly Reichardt and the beloved Robert Kramer,” said Mumenthaler. “Their visions of the world accompanied me through different stages of my education and my life.”
