Richard Tulk-Hart Launches Volteo Media

Buccaneer Media’s former CEO, Richard Tulk-Hart, has set up a new consultancy business to help production companies navigate the challenges of the global scripted business.

Volteo Media will provide consultancy services on individual projects and entire slates, as well as deliver executive-producer functions focusing on presales and international co-pros.

“The old commissioning and financing models are no longer fit for purpose,” Tulk-Hart said. “There’s an opportunity right now to work across companies and borders to help get ambitious projects made without adding permanent overheads to businesses. That’s exactly where Volteo Media comes in.”

In his six years at Buccaneer Media, Tulk-Hart had a hand in setting up seven series, among them Whitstable Pearl, Irving Welsh’s Crime and So Long Marianne. Buccaneer Media has already enlisted Tulk-Hart’s services at Volteo Media.

Volteo Media will focus on international co-productions and English-language drama produced by non-English speaking countries for global audiences, as well as bigger-budget productions with high level talent attached. It will also pursue opportunities in the vertical video space.

“There’s a real shift happening,” he explained. “The necessity for multiple partners on a show is now the norm, not a nice-to-have. I’ve been working in that space for years and I know how to bring the right people together.”
