Video Interview: Rebus Star Richard Rankin

The new adaptation of Sir Ian Rankin’s internationally best-selling Inspector Rebus novels reimagines the iconic character John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant. Richard Rankin, known for portraying Roger Wakefield in the hit series Outlander, takes on the eponymous lead role in Rebus, which originally debuted on BBC One and recently made its U.S. premiere on the Viaplay streaming service.

Produced by Eleventh Hour Films, which is also behind Foyle’s War, the series is set in present-day Edinburgh as a demoted Rebus is at a psychological crossroads. He is drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Rebus is being sold globally by Viaplay Content Distribution.

Rankin talks to TV Drama Weekly about embodying such a well-known character and working with the creative team behind the show.
