Video Interview: Groundbreaking’s Creator & Cast

Archaeology is often portrayed as an action-intensive endeavor, but the reality is a lot more mundane than that. Creator, writer and director Patrick William Smith sought to depict this in the new mockumentary-style series Groundbreaking, which follows a team of archaeologists on the brink of unemployment who have become disillusioned with their jobs as they go on a dig in Ireland. Weaving Celtic folklore with the modern world and burned-out workers, the series stars Natalie Cutler and Steven He, among others.

Smith speaks to TV Drama Weekly about the inspiration for the series and what he hopes viewers take away, while Cutler and He explain what drew them to the project and detail the preparation they underwent to take on their roles.
