The Netflix spy thriller Munich, starring Jeremy Irons, has started production.

Munich is now filming in Germany and will shoot in the U.K. Netflix will release the movie, based on the international bestseller by Robert Harris, in 2021.

Munich begins in fall 1938 as Europe stands on the brink of war. With the pressure building, Hugh Legat, a British civil servant, and Paul von Hartmann, a German diplomat, travel to Munich for the emergency Conference. As negotiations begin, the two old friends find themselves at the center of a web of political subterfuge and very real danger.

Irons stars as Neville Chamberlain, alongside George MacKay (Hugh Legat), Jannis Niehwöhner (Paul Hartman), Sandra Hüller (Helen Winter), Liv Lisa Fries (Lenya), August Diehl, (Franz Sauer), Erin Doherty (Pamela Legat) and Martin Wuttke (Adolf Hitler).

Christian Schwochow (The Crown, Bad Banks) is director, with Ben Power (The Lehman Trilogy, The Hollow Crown) as writer and Andrew Eaton (The Crown) and Turbine Studios producing.
