Award winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) has signed on to star in and executive produce the new limited series Your Honor for Showtime, which is also moving forward with a sequel to the hit LGBTQIA show The L Word.

Your Honor is a legal thriller that features all strata of New Orleans society. Cranston will star as a respected judge whose son is involved in a hit and run that leads to a high-stakes game of lies, deceit and impossible choices. The ten-episode limited series will be executive produced by Robert and Michelle King (The Good Fight, The Good Wife). Peter Moffat, whose Criminal Justice served as the basis for The Night Of, serves as showrunner, executive producer and will write multiple episodes.

“Peter, Michelle and Robert have crafted an original thriller with gut-wrenching suspense, raw emotion and moral complexity,” said Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks. “And we are simply ecstatic that Bryan Cranston, one of the planet’s finest actors, shares our enthusiasm and has agreed to play the lead. I can’t wait to shoot Your Honor and show it to the world!”

Celebrating the 15th anniversary of The L Word’s premiere, Showtime has given an eight-episode order for a sequel, scheduled to premiere by the end of 2019. Marja-Lewis Ryan (The Four-Faced Liar, 6 Balloons) serves as showrunner and is executive producing with series creator Ilene Chaiken and original series stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey. The show originally ran on Showtime from 2004 to 2009.

“Marja has brought her unique and contemporary vision to The L Word and blended it beautifully into the fabric of Ilene’s groundbreaking series,” said Levine. “This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019.”
