Turner Ramps Up Indian Activity

MUMBAI, April 10: Turner
has unveiled two new initiatives to expand its activities in India, launching
an animation theatrical business in the market and a Hollywood movies and
series channel with Warner Bros.

Turner will establish a
new multi-million-dollar business unit to develop and produce animated films
and expand its output of original live-action television series in India,
targeting kids and families.

And, in partnership with
Warner Bros., Turner is set to launch a channel in India targeting urban
viewers with hit American movies and series. It is not yet clear when the
rollout of the new network will take place.

“We believe expanding the
scope of our activities and the breadth of our core channel offerings are
strategic imperatives in India today,” said Steve
Marcopoto, the president of Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific. “These
initiatives will further bolster our considerable presence in an exciting
market that is fast becoming our largest in the region. Our recent investment
in Miditech and our Hindi GEC partnership with the Alva Brothers, together with
today’s announcements illustrate the accelerated pace of our company’s
activities in India and our long-term view of the market’s compelling
potential.”
