Transformers Sequel Strong Out of the Gate

HOLLYWOOD: The highly anticipated sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen had a record-breaking opening day in the U.S., pulling in $60.6 million in its first 24 hours.

The Michael Bay film beat out previous Wednesday record holder Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by more than $15 million, and became the second largest single-day opening of all time, just behind The Dark Knight. The Paramount Pictures release also earned the best-ever midnight run for film released on a Wednesday, earning $16 million.

"Michael Bay knows how to make movies people love and we are off to an extraordinary start around the world," said Paramount Pictures’ chairman and CEO, Brad Grey.
