TLC Adds Irish Dance Series to Lineup

LOS ANGELES: Eight episodes have been ordered of the new series Irish Dancing Tweens (working title), set to begin production this week and make its U.S. debut on TLC in the summer of 2012.

The series features the world of competitive Irish dance, along with demanding coaches, competitive mothers and hours of practice. An international debut will follow in late 2012. The series is executive produced by Sirens Media. TLC has also acquired the rights to the documentary Jig, directed by Sue Bourne, which offers unprecedented access into the competitive and beloved sport.

“TLC is excited to share this subculture of dance with our audience,” said Amy Winter, the general manager of TLC. “Irish Jig dancing is a global phenomenon and the series will reveal the world behind the sport in a compelling combination of heart and competition.”
