Thom Beers to Receive Award of Excellence at Banff

TORONTO: Thom Beers, the CEO and executive producer of Original Productions, is being honored with the Excellence in Non-Fiction Award at this year’s Banff World Media Festival.

Beers’ Original Productions has developed more than 40 series for cable channels, including hits such as Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, IRT: Deadliest Roads, Ax Men, Monster Garage, Black Gold and Storage Wars.

Along with accepting his award, Beers will be a feature interview as part of Banff’s non-fiction stream. The interview will run during a special lunch at the festival on June 13 at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

"Since founding Original Productions, Thom Beers has continually reinvented reality television with one international hit after another," said Ferne Cohen, executive director of the festival. "His unique take on unscripted programming has made him truly one-of-a-kind, and we are proud to be able to recognize his achievement with this award."
