LOS ANGELES: The return of The Walking Dead broke records on AMC in the U.S., drawing 7.3 million total viewers, and kept the momentum going with Fox International Channels’ global rollout of the second season also shattering records in Spain.

In Spain, which marks FIC’s first key market for the rollout, the second-season premiere drew 432,000 total viewers and 316,000 viewers 18 to 49. This was the best ratings results in the 18-to-49 demo in the last ten years on FOX Spain, and was the second-best debut in the history of the channel. The show notched up a 411-percent increase over the season-one premiere.

The series will launch globally this week on all Fox International Channels worldwide, ahead of the second episode airing in the U.S. The second season of The Walking Dead will reach FIC audiences in 122 countries, in 35 languages, and will be seen by more than 200 million viewers internationally.

The Walking Dead has gone from phenomenon to pandemic,” said Hernan Lopez, the CEO of FIC. “The numbers that came in from Spain this morning, combined with the astounding launch results in the US, tell us that the virus is now out of control.”

“The response to The Walking Dead has been remarkable. It’s a universal story of survival and we are so pleased to partner with Fox International Channels to bring it to life on screen,” added Charlie Collier, AMC’s president. “And now to learn that the series is the most watched drama series against key demos in countries around the globe? It just underscores that the zombie infiltration is global.”
