The Street Returning to BBC One

LONDON,
December 5: Production is under way on a third season of The Street, an ITV production created by Jimmy McGovern, to air on
BBC One.

The Street follows the lives of
different residents of one street in Manchester. Timothy Spall reprises his role as the cash-strapped
ex-cabbie, and Ger Ryan returns as his long-suffering wife. Also appearing are
Bob Hoskins, Liam Cunningham, Elizabeth Berrington and Frances Barber. The
series is produced by Matthew Bird, with McGovern and Sita Williams as
executive producers.

Williams
commented: "Each year we wonder whether we are going to be able to find
six more stories that Jimmy is passionate to tell and we are thrilled to say we
have. By the end of this season we'll have made 18 unique films with the same
core creative team and it's been an absolute privilege to continually attract
Britain's finest talents to the series."

Polly Hill,
the commissioning editor of independent drama for the BBC, added: "We are
so pleased to see the return of The
Street
to BBC One, where Jimmy's compelling storytelling continues to
attract a magnificent cast, including the wonderful Bob Hoskins and Timothy
Spall."
