The Hurt Locker Wins Oscar for Best Picture

LOS ANGELES: In addition to scoring the night’s big win as best picture, The Hurt Locker took home five additional Academy Awards, including a best director nod for Kathryn Bigelow.

Jeff Bridges won the Oscar for best actor for Crazy Heart, while Sandra Bullock was named best actress for The Blind Side. The supporting wins in the male and female categories went to Christoph Waltz of Inglorious Basterds and Mo’Nique for Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire, respectively.

Despite losing out on the best picture nod, Avatar still racked up a number of awards. The film won in the categories of art direction, cinematography and visual effects.

Up won in the animated feature film category. Argentina’s The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos) scored the win for best foreign-language film. The award for best documentary feature went to The Cove, while best documentary short went to Music by Prudence.
