The History Channel HD to Launch in Scandinavia

LONDON, October 9: The History
Channel UK has reached an agreement to launch The History Channel HD in Norway,
Sweden, Denmark and Finland on Canal
Digital, beginning December 13.

This marks the second
service for The History Channel brand to launch on Canal Digital this year,
following the debut of the standard- definition channel in February. Available to
approximately 30,000 households across the region at launch, the channel will
be broadcast in English and will be fully subtitled in Swedish and Norwegian at
launch, and in Danish from February 2009.

The History Channel HD in
Scandinavia will broadcast 100 percent HD content, and will offer a separate
schedule from the sister standard-definition network. The channel will offer a
raft of award-winning programs in high definition, including Engineering an
Empire
, Dogfights, Ancient Discoveries, and Warrior Empire: The Mughals.

Ian McDonough, the
commercial director of The History Channel UK, said: “We are delighted to
announce the launch of The History Channel HD in Scandinavia hot on the heels
of its successful launch in the U.K. and Ireland last year. Canal Digital’s
commitment to its customers in terms of innovation and content quality assures
us of its continued market leadership in the Nordic region.”
