LONDON: A joint study from Starcom MediaVest and the online division of the BBC has found that tablet owners tend to consume a greater variety and volume of news and engage in more in-depth exploration.

Of those surveyed, 78 percent said they read more news stories and follow a greater variety of news topics with their tablet devices. More than three-fourths said that tablets make the overall news experience more enjoyable. Respondents also said they would sooner give up sports (47 percent), coffee (44 percent) or Facebook (44 percent) before giving up their tablet news apps.

More than one-third of tablet owners surveyed said they spend more hour per day with media because of their device. Two of every three tablet owners said they frequently use their device while doing other things, such as watching TV or spending time with friends.
