STAR Makes $1 Million Donation to Tsunami Recovery Efforts

HONG KONG, August 21: News Corporation’s Asian arm, STAR,
has made a $1.1-million donation to UNICEF for its tsunami recovery projects in
Sri Lanka and Indonesia.

The donation will address the educational, developmental and health care needs of the children
affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami: $550,000 of STAR’s donation will be used
for the School Reconstruction Programme in Ampara, Sri Lanka, and $560,000 will
go to the Comprehensive Early Childhood Development and Health Care Provision Programme
for children in Aceh Province, Indonesia.

With STAR’s donation, UNICEF will construct a three-storey
primary school in Ampara, while in Aceh, STAR’s contribution will be used to
support the construction of more than 20 childcare centers.
