SPT Inks Dutch VOD Deal

LONDON: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has reached an agreement with Dutch cable operator Ziggo to make movies available on a subscription video-on-demand and transactional video-on-demand basis via set-top box in the Netherlands.

The movies available from SPT span action, comedy, drama, horrors and thrillers. Ziggo will offer a number of recent blockbuster titles not previously aired on free- or pay-TV in the territory. Among the SVOD titles are Spider-Man 3, Surf’s Up, Superbad and 21. Library titles include Annie, Jumanji and Bad Boys. Ziggo customers can also buy movies on a transactional basis, choosing from a titles such as You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Seven Pounds, The International and Angels & Demons.

Stuart Baxter, the executive VP of European distribution at SPT, said: “Increasingly, we are seeing demand from cable operators for high quality, subscription-based content for their customers. We are very pleased to have closed this ground-breaking deal in the Netherlands with Ziggo which we believe is what the cable market is looking for in order to drive take up of movies in the premium pay window.”
