Spanish Indies Gear Up for MIPTV

CANNES: There are more than 65 exhibitor companies from Spain expected at this year’s MIPTV, with Audiovisual from Spain highlighting a range of Spanish independent film productions, animation, TV and multiplatform services.

Coming with a slate of documentary titles and factual series are 6 Sales, presenting José and Pilar; ATN, with Low Cost; D4D, touting World Cities 3D; Explora Films, showcasing the 52-minute India: The Pilgrims of the Ganges; Expressive M.P., with the doc Spanish Wine Cathedral; Producciones 52, with the docu-reality title You Have to Be Brave; and Vértice Sales, highlighting the 6×52-minute Wild Connection.
 
Highlighting animation and/or series for children and youth are Finding 4 Your, with Socks; BRB Internacional, with Canimals; Clay Animation, with Clay Kids; Cromosoma, with Lila; Edebé Audiovisual, with Four and a Half Friends; Imira Entertainment, with Lola & Virginia Live; Littleroom, with Back to Skool; Motion Pictures, with Glumpers; Neptuno Films, with Kung Fu Chicken; Next Stage, with Golf Jitsu; Nottingham Forest, with Challenge of the Champions; and Zinkia, with Mola Noguru. Filmax International has the family-entertainment title The Red Band Society on offer. ZZJ has the educational show Consumers.
 
Antena 3 is offering the series Hispania, The Legend, while Film Factory has the series Crematorium. Imagina International Sales is touting the 13×70-minute series The Boat. Stars to Wish Upon is in the drama catalogue of KWA. Telecinco & Cuatro are highlighting Angel or Demon, while RTVE is spotlighting Love in Difficult Times and Televisió de Catalunya has Family Fare. The telenovela Puente Viejo’s Secret will be on offer from Ida y Vuelta.
 
Digital offerings will also be on the table, with Filmotech offering the Filmotech.com website and Fundación AVA with the Andalusian Audiovisual ’10 website database. In the way of feature films comes No Return from Latido Films and Mystikal from MediaBost. La Central Digital has the channel offering Canal Autor. Veralia, part of the Vocento Group, which includes Europroducciones TV, BocaBoca and Hill Valley production companies, is highlighting the projects Lady Burlesque, Únicos, 21 días and BocaBoca.
 
The Spanish delegation has a number of entertainment formats on offer as well. Boomerang TV has You Are Invited, which was recently optioned in the Netherlands, the U.S., Canada and Italy. Phileas Productions sold its Involution to Zodiak Rights, 20 Little Pigs to Endemol and The Cashier/The ATM also was picked up for select territories by Endemol. Veralia’s 21 Days was optioned by Magnolia in Italy, Kapa Productions for France and William Morris for the U.S. The company also secured a deal for Lady Burlesque, produced by Europroduzione for Sky Uno in Italy. ZZJ’s Last Date? Was sold to Enibas France produced and aired in Turkey by V-Yampin for Kanal D. The format has also been optioned by Banijay through its Nordisk Films for broadcast in Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. P52 Producciones has Bus Stop, which has been chosen as part of the MIPFormats Fresh Talent Pitch. Turner Latin America picked up the pay-TV rights for the travel show Low Cost from ATN.
 
Explora Films also secured pre-market deals. TV5 Canada picked up a package of wildlife titles from the company, while V-Me took The Lord of Sipan. In Europe, Explora signed up Discovery EMEA for wildlife specials, ARTE picked up La Joya and the Warriors in the Mist and ORF and RTS are to air the latest wildlife docs from Fernando Gonzalez-Sitges. Canal Sur picked up 14 hours of documentary fare from Explora.
 
Latido Films has sold the family title Free Birds into more than 20 countries. The company is also highlighting the thriller The Fifth Commandment for MIPTV buyers. Other thrillers on the slate include No Return, Widows on Thursdays, Night Runner. Further family highlights from Latido include E.S.O. and Ivan’s Dream, while comedy offerings include A Thousand Fools, The Great Vazquez, The Diary of Carlota. Dramas include Of Love and Other Demons, Trash, Every Song is About Me, America, Blog, For 80 Days and The Sex of the Angels. Docs on offer from Latido include How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster?, Of Heart and Courage and Cinema at the End.
