Sony to Develop Dori Novela for U.S. Market

LOS ANGELES/TEL AVIV,
February 20: Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has acquired the rights to develop
an American version of Dori Media Group’s hit telenovela Lalola, which has been licensed to 30 markets in the last
year.

Produced by Dori Media
Contenidos and based on an idea by Sebastian Ortega of Underground Productions,
the series has clinched deals in such markets as France, Italy, Germany Russia
and Spain, in addition to a host of Latin American countries.

“This is a great opportunity
to team up with SPT to promote Lalola to the U.S. TV audience, which we expect will also lead to further
breakthroughs for the show in Western European markets whose appetite for
adapted telenovelas continues to grow,” said Nadav Palti, the CEO and president of DMG. “This deal strengthens our belief that
the global demand for telenovelas is increasing and the agreement reflects our
aspiration to develop the telenovela concept and continuously seek new
opportunities to promote it.”

Sharon Hall, the senior VP
of drama development for Sony Pictures Television, added: “We were immediately
attracted to Lalola’s fully
realized characters and story lines. We believe the show has the potential to
be a hit in the U.S.”
