SOAPnet Renews General Hospital: Night Shift

BURBANK, May 28: SOAPnet
has placed an order for a second season of its original scripted drama General
Hospital: Night Shift
, with
production set to begin in June.

Season two will feature 13
new episodes, shot in HD, and is set to premiere in July, airing Tuesdays at 11
p.m. General Hospital: Night Shift is
an extension of ABC’s daytime drama General Hospital, and the first season set a record on SOAPnet as
its most-watched original series of all time in total viewers, women 18 to 34
and women 18 to 49.

Brian Frons, the president
of daytime for Disney-ABC Television Group, said, “Growing the General
Hospital
franchise by expanding
its story line on SOAPnet was a great success. Each series complements the
other and drives viewership across both networks. In its first season, Night
Shift
brought over a million new
viewers to SOAPnet.”

He added: “In addition to
meeting our viewers’ needs with a great series, we are also proud to offer
season two in HD, as our affiliates are looking for more and more HD content
and added value.”
