SingTel’s mio TV to Premiere Eason Chan Movie

SINGAPORE, January 2: SingTel has announced that its pay-TV
service mio TV will debut the new Chinese drama The Pye-Dog, starring Eason Chan, on January 10, the same day
that the movie is slated to roll out in cinemas in Singapore.

mio TV will telecast The Pye-Dog in both Cantonese and Mandarin, with English
subtitles, at 10 p.m. on January 10 on the Mei Ah Movies Channel. Mei Ah Movies
Channel is Singapore’s first Cantonese movie channel, featuring Cantonese-only
content between noon and midnight. Following the television premiere of The
Pye-Dog
, Mei Ah Movies Channel will begin
airing The Pye-Dog again from
February 7 onwards. There are plans to premiere additional movies
simultaneously on mio TV and in the cinemas.

The Pye-Dog is a
suspense drama where a school janitor named Dui, (Eason Chan), gets to know
Wang (Wen Jun Hui), a boy who was orphaned at a young age and has taken a vow
of silence as a result of his childhood experience. The two of them meet Miss
Cheung (Gia Lin), a substitute teacher at school, and the three form a bond.
The story unravels as Dui and Miss Cheung reveal their true identities as a
Yakuza and a bodyguard, respectively. Dui is on a mission by his triad leader
(Eric Tsang) to kidnap Wang while Miss Cheung is an undercover sniper sent by
Wang’s father (George Lam) to protect his son. The Pye-Dog is written and directed by Derek Kwok Chi-kin, and
features appearances from Loletta Lee and Shaw Brothers veteran Siu Yam-Yam.

Broadcasting 24 hours a day, Mei Ah Movies Channel airs
movies such as Happy Birthday (starring
Louis Koo, Rene Liu) and Death Note Part 1 and 2. Upcoming movies include Warlords, helmed by Andy Lau, Jet Li and Takeshi Kaneshiro,
and John Woo’s Red Cliff,
starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Chang Chen. Mei Ah Movies Channel is
available for S$8.76 per month for a one-year subscription.

“Mei Ah Movies Channel on mio TV is the only channel where
our customers who are fans of Hong Kong movies can watch them in Cantonese,”
said Low Ka Hoe, SingTel’s director of mio TV and content. “Our customers now
have the opportunity for the first time ever to watch a movie premiere ‘live’
at home with the option to choose either Mandarin or Cantonese language. We see
a huge potential to increase pay-TV penetration in Singapore by focusing on
exclusive tie-ups with partners like Mei Ah, where we offer “Same Day
Premieres” to cater to an audience that prefers to watch movies at home.”
