SingTel Launches mio TV on Mobile

SINGAPORE, May 20: SingTel has
rolled out a new service that allows customers to watch content from its pay-TV
platform mio TV on their mobile phones.

SingTel becomes the first
operator in Singapore and one of the first in the Asia-Pacific region to launch
a mobile TV client with true TV viewing experience on mobile phones. Users who
sign up for the mio TV on Mobile service can choose from a selection of mio TV
content that ranges from local channels like Channel 8 Prime Time and Channel
NewsAsia to premium channels like Mei Ah Movies Channel, (Asia), featuring
Cantonese-language movies; TRACE, an international TV network dedicated to
urban music and culture; ETTV Asia News, a 24-hour all-news channel;
Mom-On-Demand; and KBS World, featuring Korean dramas.

mio TV on Mobile supports
user-friendly features like electronic program guide (EPG), live TV channels
and easy channel switching. The interactive programming guide displays
information up to seven days in advance. The service also features a TV remote
control-like user interface that includes a number keypad and arrow keys that
users can use to select and toggle between channels, as well as navigate up and
down the menu.

mio TV customers who
subscribe to the mobile service will also be able to take advantage of the
remote Personal Video Recorder (PVR) that allows them to use their mobile
phones to schedule recordings on their mio TV PVR service at home, even when
they are overseas; this feature will be available by this September.

The mobile application
currently works on the following Nokia models: N76, N81, N82, N95, N95 8GB,
5700, 6110 Navigator, 6120 Classic, E51 and the N78, which will be available
soon, using Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile TV streaming solution. SingTel is currently
in discussions with other mobile handset manufacturers to support the mio TV on
Mobile service.

mio TV on Mobile customers
pay a flat monthly subscription of S$6 per month for unlimited viewing of the
live channels. Pay per view for channels and on-demand video are charged at
S$0.50 per clip. There are no data charges for downloading the mio TV on Mobile
application, browsing the program guide or watching programs. Prices are
inclusive of GST.

“mio TV has revolutionized
the way people watch TV, and the mio TV on Mobile service provides our
customers with yet another convenient medium to expand their viewing options,”
said Wong Soon Nam, SingTel’s VP of consumer marketing. “With Singapore’s high
mobile penetration rate and SingTel’s customer base of over 2.5 million mobile
users, the largest in Singapore, it makes sense to offer compelling content on
our mobile platform so that Singaporeans have access to their favorite mio TV
content wherever they may be.”
