Sesame Workshop to Cut Staff

NEW YORK: The non-profit organization, Sesame Workshop, has reduced its workforce by 20 percent because of economic pressures caused by the recession.

“After careful review, we have concluded that we will have to operate with fewer resources in order to achieve our strategic priorities,” the company announced in a statement. 67 of its 355 staff positions have been eliminated.

Sesame Workshop receives income from consumer product licensing and the sale of its preschool show Sesame Street and other programs to the PBS and international broadcasters. The company is also funded by government agencies, foundations and corporations.
