In a survey conducted by Nielsen, research shows that there is a definite increase in multitasking when it comes to media. Checking email was found to be the top activity for both men and women during TV programming and commercial breaks. Women also reported a high engagement with social networking during this time, while men reported using other devices to check sports scores.

Other activities include searching for product information (19 percent) and searching for coupons or deals (13 percent).
