PBS Unveils Online Download Initiatives

NEW YORK, July 26: PBS announced two online content deals
today, bringing several of its shows to Google Video and the Open Media Network
on a download-to-own basis.

Content available for download on both sites will include
episodes of the prime-time titles Antiques Roadshow, Nova,
Now and Scientific
American Frontiers
; and the kids’ series Arthur, Cyberchase and Fetch! Each episode
is $1.99 for unlimited playbacks, except for Nova, which is priced at $7.99 per episode. The
downloaded content will include a spot encouraging viewers to become members of
their local PBS station.

On Google, the PBS content will be available at www.video.google.com/pbs.html.
PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger said in making the announcement, "We've
received significant viewer feedback this year, requesting that we offer our
television content in downloadable formats, and we're looking forward to this
launch with Google Video. As we've seen with our podcasts, PBS viewers
appreciate the opportunity to consume PBS and local PBS stations' content when
and where they like, and today's announcement will be a boon to the
quickly-increasing number of these kinds of media consumers."

Viewers can also purchase episodes via the Open Media
Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the best of public
broadcasting and educational programming to the Internet on www.omn.org. "PBS and our local stations are
undergoing a transformation from traditional television broadcasting to a
vibrant 21st century digital public media service," said Kerger.
"Open Media Network is helping us accomplish this by offering favorite PBS
programs for sale directly to the online audience."

Programming on OMN is delivered in full DVD quality and is
then viewable on a variety of devices, including notebook computers, portable
media players, cell phones and set top boxes.
