NZ, Australian Deal on Chris Rock Doc

SANTA MONICA: Madman Entertainment has taken on the Australian and New Zealand Distribution rights for Chris Rock’s Good Hair from Cinema Management Group.

The doc explores the way hairstyles impact the activities, pocketbooks, sexual relations and self-esteem of America’s biggest hair consumers. Rock visits beauty salons, hairstyle facilities, science laboratories and Indian temples in the film to explore the obsession with hair. The deal with Madman Entertainment was concluded on Monday, prior to the start of the AFM, where the film screens today and tomorrow.

Edward Noeltner, the president of Cinema Management Group, said, “We are delighted to be in business with Madman on Good Hair as Madman’s passion for the film was not only conclusive to closing the deal, Madman also has a well established reputation as being a leading distributor of quality commercial documentaries in Australia and New Zealand.”

“After Good Hair’s impressive U.S. box-office results, we had no hesitation stepping up to the plate on this one,” commented Paul Wiegard, the managing director of Madman.

Added Noeltner, “Good Hair has now surpassed the $3.5 million box-office mark in just 24 days of limited release in the U.S. via Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attractions. We have numerous international distributors making their interest known for the film and we expect this to be a very active AFM between Good Hair and Liddell Entertainment’s thriller The Collector, which we are also delighted to be licensing.”
