The series will reflect on the damage caused by nuclear war and the effects of radiation. August Chronicles will air August 5 to 17, starting with Hiroshima and Nagasaki memorial ceremonies and programs such as Why Did Japan Go to War?, a four-part series.

The programming also touches on the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that resulted in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station crisis, with A Message from Hiroshima for Fukushima.
