NFB Launches Stock Footage Web Destination

TORONTO, April 24: The
National Film Board of Canada (NFB) presented its new web destination for
stock-footage professionals, NFB IMAGES, to Hot Docs delegates and members of
the Canadian filmmaking industry at an industry event yesterday, with the new
site launching today.

NFB IMAGES is a
state-of-the art website that grants researchers, producers, directors and
editors from around the world access to stock footage, while also giving them
the ability to view, edit and share it online. At launch, 20 percent of the NFB
stock-footage collection will be available to screen online, with thousands
more hours available via text-based search. The NFB is in the process of
digitizing its entire stock-footage collection, including hundreds of hours of
high-definition material, so that all footage will soon be available online.

“The NFB collection is
Canada’s national audiovisual treasure,” said Tom Perlmutter, the government
film commissioner and NFB chairperson. “As Canada’s public producer and
distributor, and a leader in digital content, we’re committed to using the
latest technologies to increase access to this world-class resource. NFB IMAGES
is a major step forward in the NFB’s digital strategy.”
