News Corp. Eyes MySpace Video Deals

NEW YORK, March 8: According to the Financial Times, News
Corporation is in “active negotiations” with other content owners to license
titles that it would distribute through its social networking site MySpace.

Peter Levinsohn, the president of Fox Interactive Media, is
quoted as saying that he and his team are looking to create “the most robust
video offering on the web.”

Unlike its biggest competitor, YouTube, MySpace has already
begun implementing technologies to protect copyrighted content. Google’s
YouTube has been lambasted of late by major media companies like Viacom and NBC
Universal, who have said the site is not doing enough to convince rights owners
that their content will be protected.

YouTube is still, however, the biggest video-sharing website
in the world, followed by MySpace.
