MIAMI: Mexican media giant Televisa has secured the rights to the new Power Rangers Samurai series, which launches in the U.S. on Nickelodeon next month, in a deal with MarVista Entertainment.

The latest series in Saban Brands’ long-running Power Rangers franchise is set to receive its free-TV Mexican premiere in October. Televisa also picked up select classic episodes in the franchise for launch in August. The agreement with Televisa was brokered by Ariel Tobi at SNAP TV, MarVista’s production and distribution partner for Latin America. (MarVista holds international rights to the brand via a 2010 agreement with Saban Brands).

“Children throughout Mexico have watched Power Rangers on Televisa since the very first season of Power Rangers,” said Fernando Szew, CEO of MarVista Entertainment. “We are naturally delighted that they have chosen to broadcast Power Rangers Samurai, which delivers all the action, martial arts and special effects that made the original a global phenomenon, and also to give today’s generation of children a chance to watch the classic Power Rangers episodes their parents undoubtedly watched!”

Carlos Sandoval, acquisitions general manager at Grupo Televisa, added, “Throughout the years, our audience of all ages has followed the Power Rangers saga which has continually surprised us with new and action filled adventures. Without a doubt the new show, Power Rangers Samurai, will be very well accepted and contribute to our ongoing effort in delivering entertaining, innovative and family oriented TV content to our viewers. Furthermore, with the support and participation our consumer products division, Televisa will be able to turn the Power Ranger property into a 360° entertainment platform.”
