New Home Sought for Southland

LOS ANGELES: The team behind Southland, executive produced by John Wells for Warner Bros., is looking for a cable home for the crime series following its cancellation by NBC.

Launched midseason to strong ratings and critical acclaim as a possible successor to the long-running Wells production ER, the cop series had been renewed by NBC and slotted into a Friday night slot for the 2009-10 grid. However, at the end of last week, news broke that the network had abruptly pulled the plug before even launching the second season, with six episodes already in the can. Reports indicate that the producers are looking at TNT as a possible new home.

“I’m disappointed that NBC no longer has the time periods available to support the kind of critically acclaimed series that was for so many years a hallmark of their success," Wells is quoted as saying in a statement. "We remain extremely proud of Southland and are actively looking for another home for the series.”
