New European Sales Exec for Fox

LOS ANGELES: David Smyth has left BSkyB after eight years to take on the role of VP of sales for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution in Europe, effective immediately.

Smyth will be responsible for growing Fox’s initiatives in the co-production and scripted format business, as well as sales of feature film and scripted television product to free and basic broadcasters within European territories. Based in the company’s London office, he will report to Yoni Cohen, the senior VP of international development and sales. Smyth joins from BSkyB, where he most recently served as head of acquisitions for Sky 1.

"We are very proud to have David join Fox," commented Cohen. "His wide range of experience at one of the U.K.’s most successful broadcasters is exactly what we need in face of the challenges our business anticipates. He has not only consistently proved himself as a savvy deal-maker, but has genuine enthusiasm for show business and has been an innovator at creating new outlets for the creative community, as well as our feature films and television series."

Sophie Turner Laing, the managing director of entertainment for British Sky Broadcasting Group, added, "David is a pleasure to work with—he’s done a fantastic job at Sky and this is the perfect next move for him. I wish him the very best of luck in his new role."

Smyth commented, "I have had eight wonderful years at Sky; making great friends and buying some fabulous shows for Sky 1. I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Fox and am very keen to build new businesses with them at such a crucial time."
