New Doc Series for BBC Channels

LONDON, July 28: The BBC
has commissioned a multiplatform HD documentary program, Britain From Above, to air across BBC One, Two and Four as well as
online.

From Lion TV, the new
program will provide a bird’s eye view of Britain, using CGI and aerial
photography. The BBC One series will utilize satellite tracking to explore
migrations across the landscape, looking at the networks of energy, water,
phones and money that are normally not in view. Three accompanying films on BBC
Two will look at transformations on a local scale, exploring different
locations and how they’ve changed over a single generation. On BBC Four, Britain
From Above
features a global
perspective, with a portrait of the space satellite technology used by various
agencies across the planet. Online, bbc.co.uk will support the series with
specially commissioned documentary shorts and exclusive behind-the-scenes
films.

The television and
short-film content is series produced by Lucy van Beek. Cassian Harrison is the
series director for episodes one and three on BBC One, with Mark Radice
responsible for episode two. Directors for BBC Two are Nic Young, responsible
for the first two episodes, and Chris Mitchell, who directed the third. The
executive producer for the online content is Kirsty Hunter, Lion TV’s head of
interactive. Nick Catliff is the executive producer for Lion TV, while Emma
Willis is representing the BBC.

Jana Bennett, the director of BBC Vision, said: "Britain From Above is a great example of bold and ambitious
multiplatform programming from the BBC. This is literally going to be a
narrative from the air, opening up entirely fresh and new horizons, giving this
subject a whole new perspective."
