BURBANK: Production is under way on Motorcity, a new animated series set in a futuristic Detroit that has been purchased by an evil billionaire, slated to premiere next year on Disney XD.

Created by Chris Prynoski and produced by Disney Television Animation and Titmouse, the series mixes animation and live action. Motorcity is geared toward kids 6 to 14, with a focus on boys. Motorcity‘s backdrop is Detroit Deluxe, which was built up by evil billionaire Abraham Kane. Kane banned personal freedoms, including automobiles, challenging a group of rebels who call themselves The Burners, led by 17-year-old Mike Chilton. The Burners retreat to an underground city, customize their fleet of hot rods and pursue their quest to stop Kane from taking over the world.

Eric Coleman, the senior VP of original series at Disney Television Animation, said, "Motorcity celebrates freedom and independence with cool cars, great action, and dynamic heroes who stand up for what they believe in. With its fresh sensibility and striking visual style, this show is custom-made for our Disney XD audience."
