Netflix has joined forces with the long-standing creative duo of Jay Oliva (Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox) and Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Man of Steel, 300) for a brand-new anime series set in the world of Norse mythology.
Oliva and Snyder will both serve as executive producers and creators on the series, with Oliva also serving as the director and showrunner. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will produce the series alongside the pair through Stone Quarry Animation, their production company’s newest venture with Oliva.
Oliva and Snyder’s partnership has spanned over a dozen live-action feature films, including Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 300: Rise of an Empire and Man of Steel. Snyder is currently directing, writing and producing the zombie thriller feature film Army of the Dead for Netflix, and Oliva is currently in production on the Manila-set Netflix original anime series Trese.
In the last year, Netflix has also announced several upcoming anime titles based on global IP, including Magic: The Gathering, Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and Transformers: War for Cybertron, all of which are currently in development. The new anime series Cannon Busters, Seis Manos and Levius will all launch later this year.
