F. Scott Frazier Boards Netflix’s Astronaut Down

Screenwriter F. Scott Frazier (XXX: Return of Xander Cage, Double Blind) has boarded AfterShock Media and Esmail Corp’s movie adaptation of Astronaut Down for Netflix.

The sci-fi thriller Astronaut Down, published by AfterShock Comics, was created by James Patrick (Kaiju Score, Monsters of Jimmy Crumb), with illustrations by Rubine (The Expanse, Look Into My Eyes). It tells the story of an astronaut who is selected to be launched into alternate realities on a desperate mission to save Earth.

Frazier will write the film. Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton serve as producers for Esmail Corp, with Nick Krishnamurthy executive producing. Jon Kramer and Lee Kramer are producing for AfterShock Media, with Max Zupanovic and David Sigurani serving as co-producers. Patrick has signed on as a consultant. Jon Silk and Blake Avery are overseeing the project for Netflix.

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Astronaut Down is on the path to being brought to the screen by Netflix,” said Jon Kramer, CEO of film and TV at AfterShock Media. “F. Scott Frazier’s bold, propulsive, and emotionally grounded writing is exactly the kind of storytelling audiences respond to on a global scale. James Patrick is the kind of creator whose ideas naturally lend themselves to film and television adaptation. This project represents the best of what ambitious filmmaking can be, and I’m especially excited to continue building it alongside our outstanding producing partners at Esmail Corp. We’re just getting started.”
