BEVERLY HILLS: Netflix has placed a ten-episode order for the animated comedy Big Mouth, which comes from real-life best friends Nick Kroll (Kroll Show, The League) and Andrew Goldberg (Family Guy), in addition to acquiring the global rights for Charlie McDowell’s The Discovery.

Big Mouth is about teenaged adventures in puberty. Comedian John Mulaney (John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid, Saturday Night Live) will lend his voice to the character of Andrew, while Kroll will voice Nick. The show will premiere everywhere Netflix is available in 2017.

“There are few things that keep me up at night…Nick Kroll’s adventures in puberty is one of them, so we greenlit this series with very few questions asked,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content.

“Andrew and I have been best friends since first grade, so this show is over 30 years in the making,” noted Kroll. “I can’t wait to tell all the stories that make up the glorious nightmare of puberty.”

Meanwhile, Netflix licensed the global rights for The Discovery, starring Rooney Mara (Carol), Robert Redford (Truth) and Jason Segel (The End of the Tour). The film, a love story set one year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified, will premiere on Netflix and in select theaters in the U.S. in 2017. Directed by Charlie McDowell and written by McDowell and Justin Lader, The Discovery was co-financed by Endgame Entertainment and Protagonist Pictures.

“To describe the story as original doesn’t begin to capture the world that Charlie has created that will envelop you,” said Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Sarandos. “Our global viewers are going to love this film.”

Endgame’s James Stern added: “I am a big fan of Charlie’s work and jumped at the chance to work with him on an incredible script with an exceptionally talented cast. And to be in partnership with Netflix is a perfect storm for Endgame.”
