LONDON: David Gibbons has been tapped as senior VP of international operations and technology at NBCUniversal International, effective September 30.

In his new position, Gibbons will help support NBCU’s digital growth agenda, in addition to taking on strategic leadership of the digital technology teams, broadcast operations, IT and operational service functions, including security and facilities. He will collaborate with the U.S.-based operations and technology organizations, working out of London under Ian Trombley, the company’s president of operations and technical services, and Kevin MacLellan, chairman of NBCUniversal International.

Gibbons most recently served as chief operating officer at BBC Worldwide, where he led key direct-to-consumer efforts as executive sponsor of BBC Worldwide Labs and as part of the team behind the launch of such digital initiatives as BBC Store. Earlier in his career, he was the director of global technology and operations at BBC Worldwide. He has also held senior leadership positions at such companies as Seek, GE Capital, Nike and Gap.

Trombley commented: “David is a key appointment to our leadership team and his extensive experience will be a tremendous asset as we continue to build further on our technological and operational growth.”

MacLellan noted: “David will be a strong contributor in augmenting NBCUniversal International’s digital leadership at a transitional time that presents many incredibly exciting opportunities.”

Gibbons added: “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to work with Kevin, Ian and the entire NBCUniversal family at a time of growth and change within our industry. NBCU International has some exciting plans for its strategic growth and I’m looking forward to applying my experience from a variety of global organizations to delivering on those ambitions.”
