WASHINGTON: Exclusive, never-before-seen footage from the first 36 hours of the Gulf oil-spill disaster is to be shown on National Geographic Channel, in a new documentary premiering May 27 at 10 p.m.

The footage comes from the U.S. Coast Guard, National Geographic Channel’s production crew and the salvage company at the site. This will be combined with eyewitness interviews and CGI analysis of the rig to take viewers to the point where it all began.

The doc, Golf Oil Spill, will include coverage of the rig engulfed in flames, local vessels dousing the burning rig with water and close-up moments of the burning vessel sinking. Coast Guard members will speak about their search for missing crew and teams of mariners and engineers discuss trying to fight the fire at sea.
