MTV Lines Up Broad Development Slate

SANTA MONICA: MTV has unveiled a number of new projects being put into development, including an adaptation of Televisa’s hit Argentine drama Patito Feo.

The teen drama series from Argentina chronicles the struggles of a Mexican girl from a small town who is thrown into the limelight in Los Angeles. Another reinvention will take from the classic ’80s movie Teen Wolf, given a modern makeover and drawing from the horror genre to explore werewolf mythology. Also on the development slate are Warren the Ape, a spin on the "celebrity comeback" reality show; The Awesomes, from Saturday Night Live head writer Seth Meyers, Mike Shoemaker and Lorne Michaels’ production company, Broadway Video; and Hard Times, created and executive produced by David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith. The Adrienne Bailon Project (working title) centers on the Latina Cheetah Girl as she heads home and tries to shed her packaged image. An untitled project from Jamie Foxx will be in the format of a sketch-comedy show.

MTV continues its relationship with executive producer Mark Burnett, picking up his project with The Hills star Audrina Patridge. P Diddy’s Starmaker, also executive produced by Burnett, is scheduled to premiere this summer. The network has also signed a first-look production deal with Emma Roberts and her production company, Bossy Boots Productions. Roberts will create and produce TV projects with her manager/producing partner David Sweeney.

"The most exciting thing about creating content for MTV is that you can paint across a broad canvas," said Tony DiSanto, the president of programming for MTV. "This allows us to play with different genres as our long history of hits clearly illustrates, from Beavis and Butthead to The Real World to The Hills. MTV is always evolving, and we are spreading our creative wings even further with this slate. From animation, to scripted, to comedy, as always, MTV is a home for talent to give life to their vision behind the camera, as well as in front of it."
